HSMC to sign up MNC partner in three weeks for Semicon Fab

Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) Hindustan Semiconductor Manufacturing inc (HSMC) will, in three weeks time, sign up with a multinational partner to start work on a Semiconductor Fab in India with an initial investment of one billion dollars.

HSMC Managing Partner Devendra Verma told UNI that he was in negotiation with the Governments of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh for locating the Fab and also various downstream units.

Initially the Fab would have the capacity to churn out 300,000 wafers annually with a revenue yield of around 300 to 350 million dollars. It would be producing chips in 130 nm (nanometre) and 90 nm grades. Subsequently the company would also have a second foundary that could take up production of 65 nm chips with an additional investment of around Two billion dollars.

He said that the company would be concentrating on producing chips for mobile telephones, smart cards, SIM cards and automotives.

Agumbe records lowest temp 9.7 deg. celsius

Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) Following is a summary of observations recorded by the Weather Office here at 0830hrs today. Dry weather prevailed over the State. Minimum temperatures fell at a few places over South Interior Karnataka and changed little over Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka. They were below normal at many places being appreciably so at a few places over Interior Karnataka and were normal over Coastal Karnataka. Agumbe recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 9.7 deg. Madhyamik examinee dies during exam

Midnapore, Feb 21 (UNI) Madrasa Madhyamik Pariksha examinee today died after suffering chest pain in the examination hall in Padima village in Keshpur. Sandhya Doloi(30) a student of FMI High Madrasa complained of chest pain minutes after the examination begun. She was transfered to Keshpur Rural Hospital, where she later succumbed. UNI.....

Guwahati, Feb 21 (UNI) The United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Manipur's biggest insurgent group, is all praise for the athletes who participated in the just concluded 33rd National Games here. ''Against the backdrop of the conflict, the performance of our players needs to be lauded wholeheartedly. They have emerged triumphant in whatever disciplines they had participated in.
