GPCC chief Gohil criticises BJP govt's budget

Ahmedabad, Feb 23 (UNI) Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief spokesperson and former finance minister Shaktisingh Gohil today termed the budget, presented by the State BJP government as ''anti-poor'' and ''anti-development.'' ''After the implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) and Octroi, other taxes should be abolished. However, the people of Gujarat are already overburdened under these taxes and had to shell out Rs 4,000 crore to the government this year,'' Mr Gohil said.

''After Chief Minister Narendra Modi assumed power, Gujarat has become more debt ridden than Bihar, he claimed.

Mizo student body demands youth commission

Jumbos in Kerala go hi-tech

Kochi, Mar 8 (UNI) Jumbos in Kerala are going hi-tech with the state forest department implanting microchips on captive elephants to act as electronic identity cards. The initiative is being implemented by the forest department in association with Elephant Care, a non-governmental organisation, under the Centre's 'Project Elephant'. Guwahati, Feb 23 (UNI) The banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has alleged excesses by security forces in Tinsukia district of Asom and areas adjoining the states border with Arunachal Pradesh.
