Govt's conspiracy theory untenable, :Rights body

Amedabad, Feb 23 (UNI) The Jan Sangharsh Manch, a rights body, today said the Godhra incident of February 27, 2002 was not a fallout of any well-planned conspiracy, as was being touted by the Gujarat government to draw political mileage of it.

''It could have been a spontaneous incident, but has been shown as a well-planned out conspiracy by the Government, to make political gains. The investigating agencies should bring out how the fire broke out in the S6 coach in a scientific manner,'' said Dr Mukul Sinha of the Jan Sangharsh Manch, in his rejoinder to the Government's presentation before the Nanavati-Shah Commission.

Pointing to several ''loopholes'' in the Government's conspiracy theory, he said for it to hold true, the conspirators would have known beforehand kar sevaks would indulge themselves in the manner they did and pick up fight with a vendor on the platform.

''The conspirators would have also known kar sevaks would also attempt to abduct a Muslim girl which provoked a big crowd to gather and also influence some to pull the train's alarm chain,'' he submitted.

''The government has sought to term the platform incidents as minor and tried to delink them from the coach's burning, which is totally wrong,'' he said.
