Furore over G O, House adjourned for 15 minutes

Hyderabad, Feb 23 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned for 15 minutes today with the Opposition parties stalling the House proceedings protesting against G O 938, which endorses a check on the defamatory and baseless media reports.

The G O 938 allows the Special Commissioner of Information and Public Relations to launch criminal proceedings against newspapers and electronic media if their reports were found defamatory and baseless.

However, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah announced that the G O had been withdrawn.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, Speaker K R Suresh Reddy announced that the adjournment motions given notice of by the TDP, CPI, MIM, TRS and BJP on the subject were disallowed.

Leaders of the opposition parties including CPI(M), which had not given notice of for an adjournment, charged that the government was stiffling the voice of the press.

Police to move court to freeze 'fake' Bishop's property

Chennai, Mar 4 (UNI) The Crime Branch-CID wing of the city police has decided to file a petition against self-styled Bishop Yobu Saravanan to get his property, worth Rs four crore, attached.
