Film director Priydarshan, Suniel Shetty booked in copyright case

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Feb 23 (UNI) City police today registered an offence against leading Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty, Director Priyadarshan, story writer Niraj Vora and five others for alleged violation of copyrights of Marathi film 'Bindhast', following a complaint filed by the film's producer Machindra Chate here.

Mr Chate, in his complaint, said eight persons including Priyadarshan, Suniel Shetty and six others have allegedly cheated him by stealing part of the story and scenes from his film 'Bindhast', and inserting them ditto in the film 'Bhagam Bhag', without holding copyrights or remake rights of the said film.

City's Mukundwadi police have registered an offence against the eight under section 406, 420, 468, 468, 471, (34) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 63, 68 (a) of the copyrights act 1957.

Police Sub Inspector Ananat Kulkarni of the crime branch is investigating the case.

TADA court debars media

Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) A TADA court, which conducted trial of the 1993, serial bomb blasts case, today debarred the media from attending its post-lunch proceedings on submissions made by police and jail officials. Judge Pramod Kode issued the gag order when police and jail authorities informed the court that mediapersons were speaking to the blasts' case convicts in the Arthur road jail premises where the designated court is located for security reasons. Defence seeks milder punishment for blast convicts

Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) The defence in the 1993 serial blast case today sought lesser punishment for the 100 persons who have already been convicted by the TADA court here but which are yet to given the quantum of sentence. A battery of defence lawyers, comprising Majid Memon, Subhash Kanse, and Farhana Shah, urged the court to consider the circumstances which had led the convicted persons to involve themselves in the blast conspiracy before it handed down the sentences upon them......

TADA court admits Sanjay Dutt's plea

Mumbai, Feb 23 (UNI) The Designated TADA court here today admitted cine actor and 1993 serial blasts convict Sanjay Dutt's plea seeking relief under the Probation of Offenders Act and directed the prosecution to file a reply on February 28 on his plea. TADA judge P D Kode passed the order on a plea moved by the actor's lawyer Satish Manshinde to call for a probation officer's report while considering his application for relief to Dutt instead of serving a jail.....
