Eighty-fourth annual convocation of Delhi University tomorrow

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The eighty-fourth annual convocation of the Delhi University will be held tomorrow.

While Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia will be the chief guest, Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental will preside over the function to be held at the Old Viceregal Lodge within the campus.

Candidates for the degree of PhD in all disciplines and those of DM in Cardiology, Neurology and Gastroenterology, MCh in Plastic Surgery, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Neuro Surgery, Gastroenterology Surgery and Paediatrics Surgery will be admitted in person.

Degree Certificates of the candidates who passed various examinations of the university in 2006 will be distributed by the respective colleges and departments, DU registrar A K Dubey said.

Mercury drops to 26.1 degrees C

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) After showing a rising trend for the last two days, the mercury in Delhi today dropped to 26.1 degrees Celsius. Cool Northerly winds led to a drop in the maximum temperature, from 27.8 degree C yesterday, to 26.1 degrees C today. Though clouds enveloping the skyline this morning led to a rise in the minimum temperature to 13.3 degrees C, the drop in the maximum temperature brought about by Northerlies led to a slight chill in.....

Govt to consider move for minimum 100 days Parliament sittings

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Government will consider, without amending the Constitution, the proposal of an all party meeting to have minimum 100 days sittings of Parliament in a year. A consensus among the political parties on the issue emerged at a meeting convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee this afternoon. Sources disclosed the Speaker said that he had no objection to their proposal. A formal request would be made by the Speaker to the Government to consider.....

Pak plane take off delayed because of 'technical glitch' : India

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) India today made it clear that the delay in the take off of the Pakistan Air Force plane that had come to evacuate the Pakistani nationals injured in the Samjhauta Express explosions, was because of a ''technical glitch'' as one of its engines had developed a problem and had to be repaired by the ground staff. Refuting media reports that the delay was because India wanted an ''undertaking'' from Pakistan for access to the evacuated passengers.....
