DYFI leader remanded to judicial custody

Barrackpore, Feb 23 (UNI) The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court today remanded north local committee president of the DYFI, youth wing of the CPI(M), Ashim Bhowmick, to 14-day judicial custody in a murder case.

Mr Bhowmick was arrested yesterday for his alleged involvement in the killing of a Kanchrapara Municipality employee.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Gopal Karmakar also remanded co-accused Mrinal Ghosh and Sanjay Prasad to police custody till February 28.

Police forwarded the trio to the court, while the case was registered under the Explosives Act for the killing of municipality employee Ashok Dubey on January 23 at the Municipality complex near Kanchrapara railway sation.

Armed miscreants rob Rs 20 lakh at gun point

Bhadrak, Orissa, Feb 23 (UNI) In a during daylight robbery, six armed miscreants today robbed Rs 20 lakh cash and bank drafts worth Rs five lakh at gun point in the town. 16 teachers accused of helping exmaniees cheat suspended

Chatra, Feb 23 (UNI) Sixteen teachers who were found helping matriculation examinees to cheat were suspended in Jharkhand's Chatra district today. Regional Deputy Director of Education Nagendra Thakur suspending the erring teachers, said departmental inquiry would be initiated against them. According to him, the incidents occurred at Indumati Tibrewal Saraswati Vidya Mandir and Chatra College where the said teachers instead of guarding were allegedly helping students indulge in unfair menas to answer the questions inside the exam hall. Tax officer arrested while accepting bribe

Gaya, Feb 23 (UNI) Bihar vigilance sleuths today arrested assistant commercial tax commissioner Kapildev Singh while accepting bribe of Rs 6,500 from a businessman. Official sources said the police conducted an operation to arrest the tax officer red handed.
