DYFI leader remanded to judicial custody

Barrackpore, Feb 23 (UNI) The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court today remanded north local committee president of the DYFI, youth wing of the CPI(M), Ashim Bhowmick, to 14-day judicial custody in a murder case.

Mr Bhowmick was arrested yesterday for his alleged involvement in the killing of a Kanchrapara Municipality employee.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Gopal Karmakar also remanded co-accused Mrinal Ghosh and Sanjay Prasad to police custody till February 28.

Police forwarded the trio to the court, while the case was registered under the Explosives Act for the killing of municipality employee Ashok Dubey on January 23 at the Municipality complex near Kanchrapara railway sation.

Tax officer arrested while accepting bribe

Gaya, Feb 23 (UNI) Bihar vigilance sleuths today arrested assistant commercial tax commissioner Kapildev Singh while accepting bribe of Rs 6,500 from a businessman. Official sources said the police conducted an operation to arrest the tax officer red handed. Fruit seller shot dead

Patna, Feb 23(UNI) One person was shot dead by unidentified miscreants near Bhaluhipur More in Bhojpur district today. Police here today said the criminals opened fire on fruit seller Nabibullah when he was on his way to his residence from Ara railway station. The victim died on the spot. ''Motive behind the killing is being investigated,'' police said. MP BJP pleased with election results

Bhopal, Feb 27 (UNI) Expressing happiness over assembly election results in three states, the Madhya Pradesh BJP today declared it as a mandate for the policies of the BJP. On the other hand, the Congress accepted its defeat and pledged to discharge its role as an opposition effectively.
