DSP notches Rs 200 cr in third quarter of current fiscal

Durgapur, Feb 23 (UNI) Durgapur Steel Plant(DSP) continued its impressive production performance and notched up a decent Rs 200 crores net profit in the third quarter of the current fiscal.

A DSP official said a growth of 600 per cent was achieved this year against that of last year's and the turnover of the plant jumped to Rs 2,917 crores in the first nine months from Rs 2,642 crores.

The emphasis on the special steel continued with the plant notching up best ever monthly special steel production and dispatch at 37,660 tonnes and 37,011 tonnes surpassing the previous best of 32,616 tonnes.

He said the substained efforts to improve inspection and preventive maintenance, coupled with providing requisite inputs and empowering people, have resulted in the plant surpassing all the major monthly production records.

The introduction of an additional innovative rewards scheme, augmentation of employee welfare schemes and providing greater thrust on safety and house keeping had also helped the plant, sources added.

Plants Managing Director V Shyamsundar said the production of hot metal has attained record levels for the last four months and attributed the sucess to the plant's work force.

DSP, which presently has about 56 per cent semis in its product Mix, has already initiated process to install a 0.7MT Bar and Road Mill at an estimated cost of Rs.737.95 crores. The mill would add a much needed variety in its product mix besides enhancing its finished component.
