Contract award for Japan drinking water project proper: HC

Kochi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today held the award of contract under the Japan Bank of International Corporation (JBIC) - aided project for construction of water tanks and allied work on negotiated term as proper.

Justice C N Ramachandran disposed of three petitions challenging the decision of Kerala Water Authority to award a contract for construction of water tanks and allied works on negotiated terms after rejecting the tenders.

The court observed that entire process of awarding the contract was completely transparent.

The project had five packages out of which the fourth one was the construction of a reservoir in five areas of Kerala. The water authority had invited tenders for the same and later awarded the contract to IVRCL AND EPIL after negotiation, cancelling all tenders.

12-hour Asom bandh tomorrow

Kokrajhar, Feb 27 (UNI) A 12-hour Asom bandh has been called from 0500 hours tomorrow by the Ex-BLT Welfare Society against the proposed de-reservation of the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency seat. Chennai, Feb 23 (UNI) Madras High Court today dismissed appeals filed by DMDK Founder President and actor-politician Vijayakant and his wife, against a single judge's order, dismissing their petitions challenging the centre's demolition of the marriage hall owned by them in Koyambedu. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Justice K Chandru dismissed appeals filed by Vijayakant and his wife Premalatha against a single judge's order dated February 16, challenging the Centre's move to demolish the marriage hall.....

EAC refused to issue environment clearance to Tipaimukh dam

Aizawl, Feb 27 (UNI) Action Committee for Tipaimukh Project (ACTIP) has renewed their demand of scrapping the mega project, following the Expert Appraisal Committee's (EAC) refusal to issue environmental clearance for Tipaimukh dam along Mizoram-Manipur border. An ACTIP release here today stated EAC for River Valley and Hydroelectric Projects of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF) did not accord environmental clearance to the project for the second time last week.
