Common calendar for all universities in K'taka

Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will introduce a common calendar for all its universities from the coming academic year, Higher Education Minister D H Shankaramurthy said today.

Talking to reporters here, he said the decision was taken at an inter-university board meeting here today. The education calendar would have common dates for reopening, conducting examinations and announcing results, he added.

The meeting also approved to begin eleven new courses at the post-graduate level from this year and the students opting for them would have to write the Common Entrance Test. Besides, it was decided to start yoga and meditation classes in the campus from the coming year, Mr Shankaramurthy said.

He said 90 per cent of the seats would be allotted to students from the State, with the remaining reserved for outsiders.

30 projects with over Rs 28,000 cr investment cleared

Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) Karnataka Major Industries Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu today said the eighth State High-level Clearance Committee approved 30 new industrial projects with an investment of Rs 28,202.05 crore. Talking to reporters here, he said the meeting, held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister today, approved the 30 projects, to come up in 18 districts. Contempt of court petition against Kumaraswamy rejected

Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court today rejected a criminal contempt of court petition against Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy for allegedly committing contempt of the Supreme court and the High Court. A Division Bench, comprising Mr Justice Gururajan and Mr Justice Anand Byrareddy, dismissed the petition, filed by city Advocate A V Amarnathan.
