Capital punishment given for triple murder

Patna, Feb 23 (UNI) A sessions court of Patna today handed down capital punishment to a convict for murdering three persons at Bakri bazar under Kotwali police station in 2002.

Additional distict and sessions judge Ram Pravesh Sharma pronounced the judgement to hang the accused, Sanaullah Khan till death while another accused Mohammad Hamid was aquitted for want of evidence.

The convict hails from Baikunthapur police station area of Gopalganj district.

The convict committed the triple murder of Ravindra Prasad, Sony Kumar and Arvind Kumar with sharp weapons, the court found during the trial.

SC stays Beas assembly elections

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Supreme Court today stayed till further orders the election to Beas Assembly Constituency in Punjab which the Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed to be held on February 26. New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Supreme Court today quashed the Justice K K Narendran Commission report which had raised the limit of creamy layer families among the reserved categories from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs three lakh in Kerala. Forest officials should be accountable for deforestation: SC

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) The Supreme Court today expressed serious concern on sharp depletion of forest areas in the country when informed by the amicus curiae Harish Salve that the country has lost about 26000 sq km of forest area due to illegal cutting and selling of trees. A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices Arijit Pasayat and S H Kapadia said the time has come to fix accountability of the forest officials concerned for allowing unchecked.....
