30 projects with over Rs 28,000 cr investment cleared

Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) Karnataka Major Industries Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu today said the eighth State High-level Clearance Committee approved 30 new industrial projects with an investment of Rs 28,202.05 crore.

Talking to reporters here, he said the meeting, held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister today, approved the 30 projects, to come up in 18 districts. The projects were expected to generate more than 1,43,000 employment opportunities.

Mr Naidu said that of them, atleast 15 units with an investment of Rs 7,678.45 crore and generating over 6,000 job opportunities, would be in the manufacturing sector. The State was witnessing a healthy trend of shifting focus from IT sector to manufacturing and services sector, he added.

The 30 projects deal with cement, iron and steel, wind power, health, tourism, gas distribution, textiles, and IT and ITeS sectors.

The Minister said the State Government was committed to start Special Economic Zones once the Centre came out with a clear cut policy on the issue.

HSMC to sign up MNC partner in three weeks for Semicon Fab

Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) Hindustan Semiconductor Manufacturing inc (HSMC) will, in three weeks time, sign up with a multinational partner to start work on a Semiconductor Fab in India with an initial investment of one billion dollars. HSMC Managing Partner Devendra Verma told UNI that he was in negotiation with the Governments of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh for locating the Fab and also various downstream units. Initially the Fab would have the capacity to churn out 300,000 wafers annually.....

North Bihar to become 'Industrial hub' : Lalu

Patna, Feb 21 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today said that north Bihar would soon become an 'industrial hub' as the railways had decided to set up factories at Marhaura and Sonepur which would accelerate the pace of development in the region. After flagging off the Patna-Ahmadabad-Azimabad train from Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Mr Prasad said a rail engine factory would be set up at Marhaura while a wheel factory established at Naya village near Sonepur.
