21 EC observers arrive in UP on Feb 28

Lucknow, Feb 23 (UNI) The election process in Uttar Pradesh is set rolling with as many as 21 Election Commission observers reaching to Uttar Pradesh on February 28 to oversee progress of voters list, voters identity cards and other related matters.

These observers would hold various meetings with the officials to take stock of the electoral preparedness in UP in wake of seven-phase assembly poll starting April 7, Chief Electoral Officer Anuj Kumar Vishnoi said here this evening.

He said in view of the election code of conduct enforced after declaration of poll on Wednesday, all those administrative transfers which were made earlier and not implemented would remain cancelled.

''This, however, would not apply to those, who according to the Election Commission, had to be transferred because having been posted at one place for more than three years.'' UNI

Notice issued against UP ministers

Hardoi, Feb 24 (UNI) The administration has issued notices against Uttar Pradesh sports minister R K Chaudhary and Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Vishram Singh Yadav for violating election code of conduct. On February 22, Mr Chaudhary, who is also the SP district chief, had reached Pihani town in a red beacon fitted car to address an election rally. Mr Yadav had inaugurated three schools after the model code of conduct was came into force. The notices were issued last evening......

Over 70 per cent voters cast ballots in Valtoha

Chandigarh, Feb 24 (UNI) More than 70 per cent of the over 1,18,000 voters cast their ballots today as polling passed off peacefully in the Valtoha Assembly constituency in Punjab. Polling was postponed in the constituency due to the death of CPI candidate, Kulwinder Singh, who had died in a road accident before the February 13 assembly polls. His wife Kiran Bir Kaur has now been given the party ticket. The state had witnessed a record voter turnout of over.....
