YSR for hiking SHGs with focus on lower income groups

Hyderabad, Feb 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today asked the Rural Development Department to increase the number of Women Self-Help Groups (SHG) in the state by including the lower income groups other than BPL families.

The Chief Minister stressed that further focus should be on the lower income groups and the 'pavala vaddi' and bank linkage scheme should be extended to the new SHGs on the existing lines.

He said the intention of the government is to include the low income groups also in the SHGs and bank linkage mode.

At present there are 6.8 lakh women SHGs with 65 lakh members.

The Chief Minister wanted this to be increased to cover all the low income group population in the state.

The Chief Minister was reviewed the progress of Indira Prabha (Comprehensive Land Development Project of the Rural Development Department) Scheme.

Load shedding inevitable, says Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy

Bangalore, Feb 22 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today observed that load shedding had become inevitable following non availability of required power in the state. Speaking to newsmen here after cabinet meeting, Mr Kumaraswamy said the government's priority was to ensure that students were not put to inconvenience as examinations were fast approaching.' When we have no other choice including ruling out purchase of power from outside, then it will become inevitable to introduce load shedding,' he added......

Kar Govt prepares a proposal to lay 364 km road on outskirts

Bangalore, Feb 22 (UNI) A proposal to lay an eight lane 364 kilometre road linking seven taluk centres involving an investment of Rs 5347 crores was ready and will be cleared in the next cabinet meeting, Public Works Minister H D Revanna said today. Speaking to newsmen here, he said the survey work with regard to the project had been completed already and a proposal to acquire 8600 acres of land had been prepared. RSVP'S 10th Convocation on March 8

Tirupati, Feb 22 (UNI) The 10th convocation of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth(RSVP) will be held here on March 8. According to its Vice-Chancellor H K Satapathy, Department of Science and Technology (Government of India) Secretary T Ramaswamy will deliver the convocation address while Vidyapeetha Chancellor V R Panchamukhi will preside over the function. In addition to endowment medals, gold medals for toppers in Post Graduate courses, being instituted from this year, would be presented on the occasion, he said. UNI.....
