Top HM commander arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 22 (UNI) A top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was today arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police at Shopian in south Kashmir.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Pulwama, Natish Kumar said on a tip off police party conducted search operation at Shopian this morning.

During the operation police arrested a HM commander Bashir Ahmad Wagay, a resident of Teldora, he said.

Wagay, active in the south Kashmir for the past six years, had crossed over to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) in 1990. He returned back here through Poonch sector in 2000 after receiving arms training in different POK camps.

Wagay was wanted in a number of militancy related incidents in Shopian and Pulwama areas, Mr Kumar added.

Panipat, Feb 22 (UNI) A fresh batch of Pakistani relatives of the victims of the Samjhauta Express blasts was desperately looking for clues to identify their kin among the badly charred bodies at the Civil hospital here today. So far, only 33 bodies have been identified of the Sunday train blasts victims of whom 27 were Pakistanis, including one Harif Mohammed who had died at New Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital. Nine members of a marriage party killed in jeep-truck collision

Jhajjar, Feb 22 (UNI) Nine members of a marriage party were killed when a jeep carrying them collided with a truck near Dulina village, five km from here, on the Jhajjar-Gurgaon road today. Seven of the deceased were identified as Yashpal, Partham, Swrang and Om Parkash, Jaipal and Kirpal Singh, all from Uttar Pradesh, and driver Rakesh. Srinagar, Feb 22 (UNI) Militants killed two persons and injured three others while security forces arrested four ultras, including a top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, an official spokesman said today. He said militants resorted to indiscrminate firing on a group of people at Damhal Khushipora in south Kashmir district of Anantnag last night. The injured were admitted to hospital where one died, he said. He said militants kidnapped and later killed one Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh.....
