Tension at Reliance plant, 2 cops injured

Yamunanagar, Feb 22 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the Reliance thermal power plant under construction here following a minor clash between the workers and the police today.

The police was called as the workers at the plant got enraged after three labourers working on a digging site were trapped under a heap of loose soil.

Though the workers were rescued without major injuries, their collegues became upset over the mishap and began raising slogans against the alleged negligence by the management, police said.

The workers were further agitated when the management called police which tried to disperse them. Some of the agitators pelted policemen with stones.

Police reinforcement was called in and the workers were later dispersed by them. Two policemen were injured in the clash.

The three workers, who were trapped under the soil, received minor injuries and they were admitted to a local hospital.

AP House adjourned over 'Margadarsi', Muslim reservation

Hyderabad, Feb 22 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was today adjourned without transacting any business as the opposition parties stalled the proceedings on the issue of the raids on Margadarsi Financiers, seen as an alleged attack on press freedom, and on the reported move to scale down the Muslim Reservation in Government jobs and educational institutions. The trouble started as soon as the House assembled for the day as Speaker K R Suresh Reddy announced that he was disallowing the adjournment.....

Funeral of six boat victims held

Kochi, Feb 22 (UNI) Emotions ran high as the funeral rites for the six boat accident victims were performed at Elavoor, in the district today. The funeral of teacher Lizi, students Sibin and Maria was held at the St Antony's Church and the cremation of Aswathy, Amrita and Anjana was performed at their house compound. Eighteen people, including 15 school children and three teachers, met a watery grave when their boat capsized in Ovungal Kadavu in the Periyar river. The funeral.....

Budget Session in Kerala begins Mar 2

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 22 (UNI) The Budget for the next fiscal in Kerala will be presented in the State Assembly by Finance Minister Thomas Issac on March nine. An official release here said the 20-day Budget Session would begin on March two with a customary address by Governor R L Bhatia. Vote on Account for the first four months of the year 2006-07 would also be presented. Three days would be devoted to the general discussion on the budget while Vote on.....
