Star appoints Vijay Singh President, Strategy

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Star today announced the appointment of Vijay Singh as the President, Strategy and Corporate Development, of Star India.

Mr Singh will report to Paul Aiello, the acting Chief Executive Officer of STAR India, sources in the Star network said.

In this newly created role, Mr Singh will be responsible for developing business directions for Star India while taking an active role in the company's venture businesses in India. He will oversee corporate functions including strategic planning, business development, human resources, legal, government affairs, MIS, administration and corporate communications.

Mr Singh will join STAR India in April this year.

Commenting on Mr Singh's appointment, Mr Aiello said,''Vijay is a veteran executive with a huge breadth of experience and we feel very fortunate to have attracted him to join Star India. His business acumen and unique insights into India and other developing markets will be invaluable as Star India readies itself for its next phase of growth and expansion.'' On his appointment, Mr Singh said,''It is incredibly exciting to be part of the leading television network in the country. Star India has not only defined the 'entertainment experiences' of the nation, but been a trailblazer in the realm of cable and satellite entertainment. I am especially looking forward to working with Paul as well as the talented local team and applying my experience to STAR's businesses.'' Prior to joining Star, Mr Singh served as Mr Managing Director, Developing Markets for The Tetley Group London, where he was responsible for extending the Tetley brand across a number of countries through a combination of organic growth, joint ventures and acquisitions.

Between 1996 and 2002, Mr Singh was the Managing Director, Sony Music Entertainment, India , where he set up the company from scratch, taking it to a leading position in the Indian music industry.

Prior to that, Mr Singh served as the CEO, Walt Disney Consumer Products, India and was Marketing Controller at Brooke Bond - Lipton (Unilever India). Between 1977 and 1991, Mr Singh was part of the Tata Administrative Services, and held a number of roles, including Marketing Controller, at Titan Watches.

Minorities Commission to place its report in Budget Session

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Ninth Annual Report of the National Commission for Minorities, along with the Action Taken Memorandum for the year 2001-02, would be placed before both houses of Parliament during the forthcoming Budget Session. The clearance was given at a meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, today. Management cost for implementaing NREGA increased to four pc

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for increasing by two per cent the management cost for the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act(NREGA). The existing cost was two per cent, which has been enhanced to four per cent, Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters here after a Cabinet meeting. Hurriat (M) asks India and Pak to take peace process forward

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) India and Pakistan should not allow incidents like the Samjhauta Express blasts to disrupt the ongoing talks and both the countries should ''institutionalise'' and ''take forward'' the ongoing peace process in the larger interest of their people, the moderate Hurriyat Conference said today. ''Delhi and Islamabad must institutionalise and consolidate the peace process so that people-centric CBMs are taken and the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir improves,'' moderate Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq told reporters.....
