Special ACB court rejects application of S D Karnik accused in MPSC

Mumbai, Feb 22 (UNI) A special ACB court today rejected the application of Dr S D Karnik, accused in Multi-crore MPSC examination scam of 1999, praying to allow him to go to Sharjah for a Knee surgery.

Additional Session Court Judge D B Pujari said, in his brief order, the applicant had submited old medical reports advising to go for knee surgery alongwith the application. There is no substantial grounds mentioned in the application to allow him to go to Sharjah for treatment.

Earlier, in the year 2005 and 2006, similar applications were rejected by another special court Judge P N Deshmukh.

Dr Karnik, former Chairman of MPSC was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for his alleged involvement in multi-crore MPSC scam in the year 1999.

The Investigating agency has arrested 27 accused persons for their alleged involvement in the scam. All accused are currently on bail.

One militant killed in Kashmir encounter

Srinagar, Mar 5 (UNI) One militant was killed in an encounter with security forces at Sumbal in the north Kashmir district of Baramulla today, official sources said. Bomb Hoax in Deccan Queen, train halted at Kalyan station

Mumbai, Feb 22 (UNI) The bomb disposal squad and railway police today swung into action at nearby Kalyan station after the Railway Police Force (RPF) control received an anonymous call stating that a bomb has been planted in the Pune-bound Deccan Queen The passangers were asked to alight the train however, after a thorough search lasting for an hour, it was found to be a hoax call. The Railway police control room sources said at around 1800 hours RPF control.....

Police fire in air to disperse demonstrators in north Kashmir

Baramulla, Mar 5 (UNI) Police fired in the air and also burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators who had blocked the Srinagar-Uri highway at Pattan, demanding the arrest of surrendered militants involved in theft and other crimes. About three thousand people, including women, today took to the streets at Nehalpora and after marching through different streets, blocked the highway at Pattan.
