Six huts gutted

Puducherry, Feb 22 (UNI) Six thatched huts were gutted in a fire mishap at Dubrayapet in Ouppalam constituency near here early this morning.

According to fire service sources, the fire was sparked off in the hut of one Ruso Angappan around 0315 hrs and spread to the adjoining huts. Spark from a mosuito repellant was suspected to be the cause for the fire.

Fire tenders put out the flames. However, by the time they reached the spot most of the huts were gutted.

The loss was estimated o be about Rs.1.5 lakhs, the sources said.

Justice Sreedevi to head Kerala Women's Commission

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 22 (UNI) The Kerala Women's Commission was today reconstituted with Justice D Sreedevi as its new chairperson. Prof Meenakshi Thamban, T Devi and P K Sainaba were the other members, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters here after a cabinet meeting.
