Semiconductor policy receives positive response from ISA

Bangalore, Feb 22 (UNI) The India Semiconductor Association (ISA) termed the Semiconductor Policy, announced today by the Centre, as an extremely positive one that will provide further impetus to the growth of the sector.

Reacting to the policy approved by the Union Cabinet, ISA President Poornima Shenoy said the policy had a special incentive package to attract investments for setting up semiconductor fabrication and other micro and nano technology manufacturing industries. ''The policy will provide an impetus for the further growth of the sector, the electronics industry and the overall ecosystem,'' she added.

The domestic market for electronic goods was expected to reach US Dollars 363 billion by 2015 and the domestic demand for semiconductors alone was expected to be US Dollars 43 billion.

''This policy will go a long way in making India an attractive destination for global semiconductor and hi-tech companies plus investors,'' she said.

ISA Chairman Rajendra Kumar Khare said cultivation of a robust and scalable semiconductor industry was the key to fuel the great electron revolution in the country. Semiconductors form the heart of hardware and soul of software in any electronic system. Electronic manufacturing could be globally competitive only if there was an accompanying semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
