Sangma welcomes implementation of MREGS

Shillong, Feb 22 (UNI) Former Lok Sabha Speaker and NCP leader Purno A Sangma today welcomed the implementation of the Meghalaya Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MREGS) in the state.

Mr Sangma, who is also the Chairman of the Committee, said the scheme has tremendous potential for transforming the lives of the villagers.

He said he was happy to see keen participation by the rural population in this scheme during his field visits to some villages.

''The response shown to the scheme was an indication of people's acceptance and the Social Audit by the NGOs would help to prevent misuse of funds by any agency,'' he said, while reviewing the first meeting of the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee on MREGS at Tura in state's West Garo Hills district.

Ganesh Housing inks MoU with Gujarat govt for Rs 2,000cr project

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Ganesh Housing Corporation Ltd today inked an agreement with Gujarat government to develop an integrated township project in the state at an investment of Rs 2,000 crore. The township project 'Smart City' in Ahmedabad will have high-end villas, apartment facing golf course, hospitals, business towers, hotel, international school, helipad, country club and shopping malls and multiplex theatres. GoMs to go into coal mining, mineral policy: Cabinet

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Cabinet today decided to set up two Group of Ministers (GoMs) to finalise the National Mineral Policy and the issue of coal mining. The members of the GoMs are expected to be announced in a day or two by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Under another Cabinet decision, the electrical and engineering units of the Andrew Yule and Company would be hived off, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters.
