Probe another missing case, J

Srinagar, Feb 22 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Human Rights Commission (HRC) has appointed Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Srinagar to investigate into the disappearance of a youth from Shalimar since June 2002.

The chairman of the HRC Justice M Y Kawoosa directed the ADC to submit the report within two months.

The commission had received a written petition from one Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh that his son Mohammad Rafiq Sheikh, a driver, was missing since June 18,2002.

He said Rafiq was last seen with 34 Rashitriya Rifles alongwith his Sumo vehicle in the central Kashmir district of Badgam.

The commission has already directed Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, to look into the matter.

Hundreds of people took to streets last week at Shalimar and observed complete shut down of all routine activities demanding whereabouts of Rafiq.

Tension at Reliance plant, 2 cops injured

Yamunanagar, Feb 22 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the Reliance thermal power plant under construction here following a minor clash between the workers and the police today. The police was called as the workers at the plant got enraged after three labourers working on a digging site were trapped under a heap of loose soil. Though the workers were rescued without major injuries, their collegues became upset over the mishap and began raising slogans against the alleged negligence by the management, police.....

Guv suggests against convocations in UP varsities

Lucknow, Feb 22 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh governor T V Rajeswar has directed the Uttar Pradesh government not to hold convocation ceremonies in six state universities. In a letter to the state government, Mr Rajeswar without giving any specific reason, suggested the convocation of these varsities could be held between October and December 2007. It is learnt that due to the impending UP assembly poll, the Raj Bhawan has suggested the postponement of convocations. The convocation functions of Lucknow, Agra, Jhansi, Faizabad,.....

Christians to move court against Freedom of Religion Act

Shimla, Feb 22 (UNI) A Christian organisation today threatened to challenge in the High Court the recently enacted Freedom of Religion Act, 2006, by the Himachal Pradesh Government, saying it was a crude attempt to curtail freedom of faith.
