Pondy proposes vehicle pollution test centre

Puducherry, Feb 22 (UNI) The Puducherry administration proposes to set up a centre to check the pollution levels of vehicles here, Minister for Education M O H F Shajahan said today.

Inaugurating the 'Green Earth-Enviornment Friendly Club' at the Bharathidasan Government Women's College here, he said the vehicles emanating smoke above the prescribed norms, would be tested at the centre to minimise the level to prevent environmental pollution.

Stating that the accumulation of garbages was high in Puducherry, the Minister urged clubs to create awareness among the public for proper disposal.

Police said Vellore Prison Warders Training Institute Principal Chandran (51) and working as a jailor in Coimbatore Central Prison on deputation for the last four days was killed on the spot when he was hit by speedy autorickshaw in Tiruchirapalli Road in the city. Hyderabad, Feb 22 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today asked the Rural Development Department to increase the number of Women Self-Help Groups (SHG) in the state by including the lower income groups other than BPL families.
