NHAI to invest Rs 5,000 cr on highways in Haryana

Chandigarh, Feb 22 (UNI) The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is proposing to invest Rs 5,000 crore for widening and improvement of various national highways passing through Haryana.

This was stated by NHAI chairman Pradeep Kumar during a meeting of the co-ordination committee to facilitate the implementation of National Highway projects by NHAI in Haryana held under the chairmanship of Haryana Chief Secretary Prem Prashant here today.

The NHAI would spend a total of Rs 9,000 crore on strengthening the road infrastructure of entire northern region of the country.

It was informed in the meeting that the six laning of National Highway (NH) 1 from Panipat to Ambala had already been approved for which the detailed project report would be ready by June 2007.

The work on this highway would be awarded in December 2007 and it would be completed within the stipulated period of 36 months.

The NHAI Chairman said 30 per cent work on four laning of NH 22 from Ambala to Zirakpur had been completed and the remaining 70 per cent would likely to be completed by December 2008.

Similarly, the work on four laning of Zirakpur-Parwanoo highway with bypass routes in Pinjore, Kalka and Parwanoo had also been alloted at a cost of Rs 413 crore.

No nation-wide search and seizure operations on stock brokers: CBDT

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) today denied reports that nation-wide searches were being conducted by the Income Tax Department on stock brokers or other stock market intermediaries. ''There is no truth in such reports. There are no nation-wide searches being conducted by the Income Tax Department. No searches are being conducted on stock brokers and stock market intermediaries as erroneuosly reported in the media,'' Mr A K Sinha, a spokesman of the CBDT, told.....

Pakistan again asks Kashmiri separatists to unite

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Pakistan today again asked warring Kashmiri separatist groups to forge unity and come on a ''common platform'' in the larger interests of the ''Kashmir cause'', sources said.
