Management cost for implementaing NREGA increased to four pc

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for increasing by two per cent the management cost for the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act(NREGA).

The existing cost was two per cent, which has been enhanced to four per cent, Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters here after a Cabinet meeting.

The step has been taken to provide for additional manpower, infrstructure upgradation and skill development to the implementing agencies. It would also help in enhancing worksite facilities.

The present budget for NREGA is Rs 12,555 crore. Of this the Central share is Rs 11,300 crore and states have to bear ten per cent of the total cost which comes to Rs 1255 crore.

Four per cent of the budget comes to Rs 502 crore.

No additional funds for the current budget were needed and the enhanced administrative ceiling will be absorbed within the current year's budget.

Visa free travel for diplomatic passport holders

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) India and Turkey will soon sign an agreement enabling visa-free travel for diplomatic passport heders in each other's country. A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, today gave approval for signing the agreement. Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told mediapersons after the meeting that the agreement would be signed during any future visit of an Indian delegation to Turkey or Turkish delegation to India. It will come into effect 30.....

National Instruments Ltd to be closed down: Cabinet

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Centre today decided to close down National Instruments Ltd (NIL), Kolkata, after transferring all its 68 employees to Jadavpur University and meeting its liabilities amounting to over Rs 241 crore. A Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also approved the transfer of all the assets of NIL to the University, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters. Among the financial commitments that would be written off are equity capital (Rs 8.31.....

India asks Pakistan to cooperate against terror

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) A day after turning down Islamabad's proposal for joint investigation into the Samjhauta Express explosions, India today asked Pakistan to cooperate in identifying and punishing those guilty of the gruesome tragedy ''wherever they exist.'' ''This attack underlines the need for effective coordination against terrorist groups wherever they exist. We hope Pakistan will cooperate in identifying the assailants and punishing them,'' External Affairs MInistry spokesman Navtej Sarna said today. The spokesman, while expressing gratitude to world leaders.....
