Kolkata to host 12th leather goods fair

Kolkata, Feb 22 (UNI) In order to encourage the production of leather goods, the Indian Trade Promotion Organisation (IPTO) is hosting the 12th International Leather Goods Fair (ILGF) here from February 23.

The three-day fair, organised by ITPO in collaboration with Council for Leather Exports (CLE), Indian Leather Products Association (ILPA), Government of West Bengal and Bengal National Chamber of Commerce, would be inaugaurated by State Transport Minister Subhas Chakroborty.

The fair would showcase wide range of leather products like hand bags, wallets, portfolios, rucksacks, briefcase, belts, leather footwear, leather garments and sports goods. Apart from leather goods, leather goods manufacturing machineries and leather processing machineries would be put on display.

ICGP would be participated by more than 70 leading companies from India and abroad.

IPTO Executive Director Rajiv Yadav said this year buyers from foreign countries like Canada, Germany, UK, USA, Poland, New Zealand, Spain, South Africa, France and Latvia would visit the fair.

A team of designers from ARS Arpel group of Italy would also attend the fair and assist Indian Small Leather goods manufacturing units for promotion of their exports.

Chairman(Eastern Region) of CLE A K Chaterjee opined that by 2011, the leather sector could create 1,00,000 jobs.

India's export of leather and leather products in 2005-2006 was in tune of 2694.59 million US dollar.Keeping in view the current trend, the export projection by 2010-11 is expected to reach a level of seven billion US dollar.

Claas to set up major combine harvester plant in Punjab

Morinda, Feb 22 (UNI) Claas, a Germany-based leading harvesting specialist company, is setting up a combine harvester plant at Morinda in Punjab with an investment of over 19 million euros. This would be the second manufacturing facility of the global company in India after Faridabad in Haryana, which was set in 1992. BSNL on expansion spree

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will double its turnover at 20 billion dollars in the next three years with an increase of 27 per cent year-on-year.
