India bans transfer of nuclear technology to Iran

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) In compliance with the UN Security Council resolution passed last year, India has prohibited export of any material and technology to Iran that could contribute to its nuclear weapons and delivery systems.

The Directorate-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification that "direct or indirect export and import of all items, materials, equipment, goods and technology which could contribute to Iran's enrichment-related, reprocessing or heavy water related activities, or to the development of nuclear weapon delivery systems, whether or not originating in Iran, to/from Iran is prohibited." Exceptions have been made in the case of "supply, sale or transfer of equipment" for light water reactors and low-enriched uranium when it is incorporated in assembled nuclear fuel elements for such reactors.

The Security Council had through a resolution passed last year banned supplies of nuclear-related technology and material to Teheran.

Law for senior citizens' welfare: Cabinet

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Centre today decided to enact a law to provide effective care and protection to senior citizens and help them get maintenance from their children. A proposal to introduce a Bill in this regard was approved at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Bill 2006 would be introduced in the Budget session of Parliament beginning tomorrow, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters......

Minorities Commission to place its report in Budget Session

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Ninth Annual Report of the National Commission for Minorities, along with the Action Taken Memorandum for the year 2001-02, would be placed before both houses of Parliament during the forthcoming Budget Session. The clearance was given at a meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, today.
