Guv suggests against convocations in UP varsities

Lucknow, Feb 22 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh governor T V Rajeswar has directed the Uttar Pradesh government not to hold convocation ceremonies in six state universities.

In a letter to the state government, Mr Rajeswar without giving any specific reason, suggested the convocation of these varsities could be held between October and December 2007.

It is learnt that due to the impending UP assembly poll, the Raj Bhawan has suggested the postponement of convocations.

The convocation functions of Lucknow, Agra, Jhansi, Faizabad, Meerut and King George Dental University (KGDU) were slated in the next couple of months.

Funeral of six boat victims held

Kochi, Feb 22 (UNI) Emotions ran high as the funeral rites for the six boat accident victims were performed at Elavoor, in the district today. The funeral of teacher Lizi, students Sibin and Maria was held at the St Antony's Church and the cremation of Aswathy, Amrita and Anjana was performed at their house compound. Tight security for Kalam's visit

Chennai, Feb 22 (UNI) Police have made tight security arrangements in the city, Coimbatore and Nilgiris in view of President A P J Abdul Kalam's two-day visit to Tamil Nadu beginning tomorrow.
