Governor lauds CM for development activities

Gandhinagar, Feb 22 (UNI) Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma today lauded the all-round development made by the Government of Chief Minister Narendra Modi on the opening day of the Bugget session of the state Assembly.

Addressing the 11th Legislative Assembly here, Mr Sharma said the Government has opened up new vistas of development for the entire country, thanks to its untiring efforts in the fields of industrial development, investment, tourism, beautification of cities and villages, upliftment of the poor and the deprived, welfare of women and children, conservation of water and environment as well as exploring new resources of energy.

The year 2007 is being celebrated as the year of 'Nirmal Gujarat' (Clear and Clear Gujarat). The Government is committed to the implementation of various schemes leading to the development of backward classes, especially the deprived to enable their empowerment in social and economic fields, he said.

The greatest achievement of the Gujarat Government is that it has completed the height of the Narmada Dam to 121.92 meters this year under the multi-purpose Sardar Sarovar Yojana which has three major components -- power generation, drinking water and irrigation.

The Sujalam Sufalam Yojana would help to improve the qualities of water and land, which in turn would go towards improving public health and would significantly augment agricultural production.

Savings in electricity will be effected as lift irrigation by pumps will cease, Mr Sharma added.
