Ghosh urges CM to remove his departmental secretary

Kolkata, Feb 22 (UNI) In a politician-bureaucrat spat, West Bengal Co-operation Minister Rabindranath Ghosh has urged Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to remove his departmental Secretary on the ground of saboteuring.

After a prolonged tussle with Principal Secretary Nihar Ranjan Banerjee, the Minister today publicly charged the bureaucrat with gross procedural irregularities and holding up files willfully.

'' I have sought his removal to the Chief Minister and he has assured me to comply with. Not only Mr Banerjee held up several important files, but he has indulged in wrong appointments,'' Mr Ghosh told reporters.

However, denying the Minister's charge, Mr Banerjee asserted that whatever he had done was in accordance with the rule and there was nothing abnormal in it.

RBI issues notices regarding complaints of counterfeit notes

Kolkata, Feb 22 (UNI) Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today issued a public notice cautioning the people about the issuance of counterfeit notes through ATMs. Issuing the notice here today following the receipt of several complaints in this regard, the RBI made it clear that "in no circumstances counterfeit banknotes get dispensed through ATMs or across the exchange counters". Wal-Mart still in talks with Bharti

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) World's largest retailer Wal-Mart today said it was still in ''preliminary talks'' with partner Bharti and had arrived in India to further explore the wholesale cash-and-carry business in the country.
