Former BJP MP Jayantiben Mehta inaugurates Asiatex-2007

Mumbai, Feb 22 (UNI) Former BJP MP Jayantiben Mehta today inaugurated 'Asiatex-2007', Asia's largest textile trade fair that is expected to do business worth Rs 200 crores in just 4 days, here.

''Maharashtra Finance Minister Jayant Patil, who was supposed to inaugurate the event, could not make it since he had to rush to Delhi last night,'' Chamber officials explained.

''A woman decides who is going to wear what in a family,'' Ms Mehta observed in her inaugural speech.

The wide-ranging exhibition, organized by the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce, is among the largest textile expos in India. It gains extra significance this time around as it comes at a time when the textile industry is poised to make its mark in the global arena.

''Over ninety companies including major distributors, manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, commission agents, buying houses, indenting agents and garment manufactures will take part in the exposition'' officials said.

In the past three years, Hindustan Chamber of Commerce has successfully organized three exhibitions, the last of which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

The exhibition is also supported by the Textiles Committee of the Government of India, the Cotton Textile Export Promotion Council, Power loom Development and Export Promotion Council, The Synthetic&Rayon textile Export Promotion Council&RICCO (Govt of Rajasthan), officials disclosed.

''Asia Tex- 2007 promises to be the platform for a more dynamic trade interaction and a place to display the latest designs of mill-made, power loom, handloom fabrics, yarns and accessories of different colors and quality. Also, showcasing latest fashions trends for up-coming season, we also plan to have a Fashion Show on February 24 at he same Venue,'' the organisers added.

Dabur Foods relaunches 'Real' by increasing its price

Kolkata to host 12th leather goods fair
