Farm fest at Botanical gardens

Puducherry, Feb 22 (UNI) Puducherry Lt Governor Mukut Mithi will inaugurate the annual farm fest at the Botanical gardens here tomorrow.

Addressing a press conference today, Agriculture Minister V Vaithilingam said the administration would take steps to organise similar flower, fruit and vegetable shows in rural areas from next year.

The show was being conducted to encourage farmers and to make them aware of the latest agricultural equipment. The exhibits would be sold at a 50 per cent discount, he said adding bus facility would be arranged to the Botanical gardens.

For the first time, animal display would be included in the farm fest, he said and added that a similar fest would be held in Karaikal next week and in Mahe in another fortnight.

NTPC to go slow on Power equipment manufacturing company

Kolkata, Feb 23 (UNI) The National Thermal Power Corporation(NTPC), a PSU power generation company, is going slow on its new venture of power equipment and spares manufacturing and servicing power equipment. Speaking on the sidelines of Asia Pacific conclave on Coal Combustion Products, NTPC Director (Operations) Chandan Roy said, ''We will float a subsidiary for this purpose before the Commonwealth Games scheduled in 2010 in Delhi.'' However, he declined to mention when the company would appoint a consultant for this.....

Holi celebrated in UP with enthusiasm and fun

Lucknow, Mar 4 (UNI) 'Holi', the festival of colours, was celebrated throughout Uttar Pradesh with religious fervour and gaiety today. People sprinkled colours on each other and exchanged greetings on the occasion. Children were out on streets, spraying colours on their friends and the passers by. People took out 'Holi procession' and enjoyed with their friends and families. While in most places of the state, Holi is being celebrated today, it will continue till tommorow in Allahabad, Gorakhpur and Kanpur......

Jaypee joins Power Grid to setup 1,000 MW at Rs 600 cr

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Jaiprakash Hydro Power Limited (JHPL), has entered into a joint venture (JV) with Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) for setting up a transmission system associated with 1,000 MW Karcham Wangtoo Hydroelectric Project at a cost of Rs 600 crore. The JV company will be called Jaypee Powergrid Limited, wherein JHPL shall hold 74 per cent of the equity and the balance 26 per cent will be held by PGCIL. The MoU for this JV.....
