Election to Bajpur seat to be held on March 25

Dehra Dun, Feb 22 (UNI) Notification was issued today for the Bajpur Assembly seat election in Uttarakhand slated to be held on March 25.

The Bajpur poll was deferred following the demise of Congress candidate Janakraj Sharma on February 18, just three days before the Assembly election, said Bajpur Returning Officer K S Bisht.

While the Congress would file its nomination on February 27, there are 20 other candidates in the fray.

Meanwhile, polling in the booth no 11 at Pauri Constituency, suspended yesterday due to malfunctioning of EVM, would be held on February 23 from 0800 hrs to 1700 hrs, according to the election department.

Out of 70 Assembly seats, polling for 69 was held on February 21 and the result would be declared on February 27.

Bengal Assembly adjourned after obituary references

Kolkata, Mar 9(UNI) The West Bengal Assembly was adjourned for the day today after making obituary references to eminent persons who died during the inter session period. Speaker Hashim Abdul Halim made obituary references to altogether 12 persons, including CITU General Secretary and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Chittabrata Mazumder, former Minister Krishnapada Haldar, painter Bikash Bhattacharyay and lyricist OP Nayyar before adjouring the House. EC censors political ads in UP, bans Big B's adv for SP

Lucknow, Feb 22 (UNI) A day after the Assembly election dates were announced in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission (EC) has censored all political advertisements, including their publication and telecast on satellite channels -- temporarily banning Big B's TV campaign for the ruling Samajwadi Party. In the last few months, superstar star Amitabh Bachchan has been actively appearing in advertisements for SP, highlighting development and good law and order situation in UP. Govt to seek inputs from MLAs over hailstorm losses

Ranchi, Mar 9 (UNI) The Jharkhand government today said compensation would be given to every hailstorm affected farmer after a brief inquiry by the concerned district commissioners and inputs from legislators. Replying to a question of Upendranath Das(BJP), deputy chief minister and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Stephen Marandi said reports of the hailstorm was sought by all the districts and Rs 1,26,14,572 were being allotted to Ranchi, Jamtara, Deoghar and Gumla for giving compensation to the agriculturists.
