Lucknow, Feb 22 (UNI) The formidable Yadav belt, a strong hold of the ruling Samajwadi Party and the native place of chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, will be the testing ground for the Election Commission to hold free and fair polls in the first phase on April 7.

Though the CM is expected to contest from Gunnaur assembly constituency in Badaun district, his home district Etawah, known for its dacoit infested area on the UP-Madhya Pradesh borders, has been earmarked for the first phase of poll along with Kanpur, Kanpur Dehat, Auriya, Firozabad, Hathras, Mainpuri, Etah and Bundelkhand districts of Jhansi, Hamirpur, Jalaun,Lalitpur and Mahoba.

Altogether 62 assembly constitutuencies would go on polls in the first phase which is basically a backward dominated region, where the ruling SP has won most of the seats in the last assembly polls.

Election Office sources here today said the poll preparation including the deployment of police and para-military forces would be in a strategic way as the commission was expecting much violence in the opening round of the seven phase poll.

The EC is expected to deploy around 400 companies of central forces along with state police in the first phase of elections where the main challenge of the authorities would be to prevent infiltration from the nearby Madhya Pradesh and control the influence of the dacoits gangs of which Dadua gang being the prominent.

The constituencies going to the polls in the first phase are spread over twelve districts of the state which also comrpises of Bundelkhand districts. The constituencies include Aryanagar, Madhogarh, Sisamau(SC), Bhogaon, Generalganj, Kishni(SC), Kanpur Cantonment, Karhal, Govind Nagar, Shikohabad, Kalyanpur, Jasrana Sarsaul, Ghiror, Ghatampur, Mainpuri, Bhognipur(SC), Aliganj, Rajpur, Patiyali, Sarvankhera, Sakeet, Chaubepur, Soron, Bilhaur(SC), Kasganj, Derapur, Etah, Auraiya, Nidhauli Kalan, Ajitmal(SC), Jalesar(SC) Lakhana(SC),Firozabad, Etawah, Bah, Jaswantnagar, Fatehabad, Bharthana, Tundla(SC),Bidhuna,Etmadpur(SC), Hamirpur, Dayalbagh, Maudaha, Agra Cantonment, Rath, Agra East, Charkhari(SC), Agra West(SC), Mahoba, Kheragarh, Mehroni, Fatehpur Sikri, Lalitpur, Jhansi, Babina(SC), Mauranipur(SC), Garautha, Konch(SC), Orai and Kalpi.

Election to Bajpur seat to be held on March 25

Dehra Dun, Feb 22 (UNI) Notification was issued today for the Bajpur Assembly seat election in Uttarakhand slated to be held on March 25. The Bajpur poll was deferred following the demise of Congress candidate Janakraj Sharma on February 18, just three days before the Assembly election, said Bajpur Returning Officer K S Bisht. A boy killed in Jharkhand

Chatra, Mar 9 (UNI) A 15-year-old boy was killed after falling from a bus near Ramnarayan Singh college under Hunterganj police station area in Jharkhand's Chatra district today. Police said the boy, identified as Nand Kishore Thakur, a standard IX student, was sitting on the top of the vehicle. He was on his way to a sports event in the district. Jammu, Feb 22 (UNI) Nine candidates are in the fray for eight Jammu and Kashmir legislative council seats after scrutiny of nomination papers today. ''Thirteen candidates had filed their nominations and while papers of nine have been found in order, the nomination papers of four Independents have been rejected after scrutiny,'' Secretary Legislative Assembly and Returning Officer Mohammad Iqbal Ganai said.
