DDK starts regional transmission in Nicobar

Port Blair, Feb 22 (UNI) The Doordarshan Kendra here today extended its regional terrestrial transmission to Nicobar district of Andaman and Nicobar Island.

''The people can now see the local programmes on DDK-Port Blair from 1800 was to 1930 hrs,'' DDK-P Director P K Subash told UNI here today.

To mark the occasion, an interview with the Nicobar's Chief Captain Aberdeen Blair was telecast at 1830 hrs followed by a Nicobari dance and music programme.

Since long, the tribals in the islands were demanding an extension DDK's regional terrestrial transmission to the district.

'' Its a happy and memorable moment for the tribal community of the district. We must thank the DD for their efforts,'' said Thomas Philip, a tribal leader of Car Nicobar Island.

Meanwhile, all the political parties in the island have expressed their gratitude towards Doordarshan.

The tribals would connect better with other parts of the territory now, said Manoranjan Bhakta, the lone Member of Parliament from Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Nagaland to help Coir Board for marketing

One killed, one injured in

Aizawl, Feb 21 (UNI) A man was killed and his grandchild injured critically when boulders from uphill fell on them at Zuangtui in the outskirts of the capital town yesterday.
