CPWD director urges completion of border fencing on time

Agartala, Feb 22 (UNI) Director General (works) of CPWD Amarnath Chakraborty has directed the concerned agencies, involved in the works for erection of barbed wire fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border with Tripura, to complete the work on time.

Mr Chakraborty, who is also the chairman of the Technical Committee of Indo-Bangla Border fencing and road, inspected the ongoing work in different areas of the state on Sunday and also directed the agencies to construct the fencing as per design, according to an official release here.

He had visited Jalaya, Dhanpur and Agartala checkposts with Bangladesh border and the representatives of NBCC, NPCC, EPIL and BRO, who had been entrusted with the works, apprised him of the shortcomings in construction of border fencing in those areas.

The agencies had apprised him of various difficulties, including land acquisition and Mr Chakraborty had asked them to sort out the problems with the help of BSF and District or Local State Government authorities.

During Mr Chakraborty's visit to the bordering areas, IG BSF, Tripura Frontier J.A.Khan, Additional Director General (border) CPWD M.S.Dogra and other officials of BSF and CPWD accompanied him, the release added.

Two women killed in road accident

Hajipur, Feb 22 (UNI) Two women were killed and six injured when a speeding truck collided headon with a tempo on Mahatma Gandhi Setu over Ganga late night on Wednesday. Police said the victims were identified as Sanju Devi and her daughter Khushbu Kumari of Bharokhara village under Pantepur police station. IBC Monitoring system in NE

Agartala, Feb 22 (UNI) The Indian Buildings Congress (IBC) has recommended that monitoring systems for various natural hazards in the North Eastern Region (NER) need to be modernised with installation of additional seismic stations, flood warning systems and GPS equipped with autonomic analysis and warning systems connected to major cities. The IBC which held its National Council and Chief Engineers meeting that concluded here recently has suggested guidelines on planning aspects for disaster management among the professionals in Northeast.
