Congress, TDP join fray for Guntur local body constituency

Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Feb 22 (UNI) The Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will join the fray for the elections to Andhra Pradesh Guntur local body constituency.

Former District Congress President and MP R Sambasivarao's brother R Srinvas (Cong), and T V G Krishna Reddy (Cong) and N Rajanarayana Yadav (TDP) filed nominations before the Returning Officer (Joint Collector) B Rahul today.

C Varaprasad (TDP), M Paparao (BJP), Dr G Samaram supported by Indian Medical Association, Y Koteswararao, G Venkateswara Rao, S S Mahalakshmi were among those in the arena from the Guntur-Krishna double- member constituency.

Ten nominations were filed in the Guntur-Krishna teachers constituency.

In all 49 nominations were filed in the three constituencies today.

Two TSR jawans killed in ambush

Agartala, Mar 7(UNI) Two Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans were shot dead and two critically injured in an ambush by the underground militants in West District, last night, police said today. They said a group of armed tribal militants, suspected to be All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), laid an ambush in the Atharamura Hill range and started firing on the 6th battalion TSR jawans of Binan Hazari para last night. Two jawans died on the spot and many received bullet.....

AICC Secretaries for election campaign in Nagaland

Kohima, Feb 23 (UNI) All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretaries Major Ved Prakash and Ranjit Thomas will arrive in Nagaland tomorrow on a three-day visit. During their stay, the secretaries will campaign for the Congress candidates for the March 8 by-elections of Dimapur-I and Tuensang Sadar II Assembly constituencies by addressing rallies in the respective constituencies, Congress Party sources said. Ranchi, Feb 23 (UNI) Jharkhand State Child Welfare Council (JSCWC) will be its election on March 17, the council's honorary secretary Amit Khare here today said. Publication of voters list postponed

Puducherry, Feb 23 (UNI) The Election Department today postponed the publication of the final voters list in the Union Territory, scheduled for February 26. The Joint Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) P T Rudra Goud in a release here said this is in view of the Election Commission of India's direction to conduct a random spot verification of admitted claims in some of the Assembly Constituencies here, where the number of such claims was high.
