Budget Session in Kerala to begin on Mar 2

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 22 (UNI) The Budget for the next fiscal in Kerala will be presented in the State Assembly by Finance Minister Thomas Issac on March nine.

An official release said the 20-day Budget Session would begin on March two with a customary address by Governor R L Bhatia. Vote on Account for the first four months of the year 2006-07 would also be presented.

Three days would be devoted to the general discussion of the budget, while Vote on Account would be put on voting on March 19.

The fourth session of the 12th Legislative Assembly would conclude on March 29 This would be the second budget of the Marxist-led Left Democratic Front Government in the state headed by Mr V S Achuthanandan.

State Bank of Patiala hikes Interest for FDs to 9.50%

Patiala, Feb 23 (UNI) State Bank of Patiala today hiked the Bank's fixed deposits rates under the Platinum Deposit Scheme with effect from today. For fixed deposits of three years and above, the Bank will now pay 9.75 per cent instead of 9.25 per cent for senior citizens while for General public, the interest rate will be raised to 9.50 per cent from nine per cent. Minimum deposits under this scheme was Rs 25,000, an official statement said here. UNI.....

Mixed reaction on budget

Kochi, Feb 28 (UNI) The Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry today lauded the Union Budget 2007-08 for its initiatives in agricultural sector but took exception for inadequate consideration to check inflation. In a statement here, Chamber President E S Jose said the budget, which was presented by P Chidambaram, gave preference to agricultural sector and farm workers but has not given adequate consideration to check the price rise except the proposal for exempting the essential commodities from future trade.
