BEL Pays Rs 24 Cr Interim Dividend

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Registering a hattrick, the defence public sector undertaking Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) today paid interim dividend to the Government -- Rs 24 crore this time.

A cheque for Rs 242,758,400 -- as interim dividend for the current financial year 2006-07 -- was presented to Defence Minister AK Antony by BEL Chairman&Managing Director VVR Sastry here.

BEL has declared 40 per cent interim dividend to its shareholders -- marking the third consecutive year that the mini-ratna PSU has paid interim dividend.

Minister Antony congratulated the BEL Chairman&Managing Director for the excellent performance of the company and expressed the hope that the defence PSU will keep it up.

Secretary (Defence Production) KP Singh was also present on the occasion.

Minister inaugurates handicrafts expo

Hyderabad, Mar 2 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Tourism and Export Promotion J Geeta Reddy today inaugurated a handicrafts expo for promotion, marketing and development of traditional handicrafts of the state. Speaking at the silver jubilee celebrations of the AP Handicrafts Development Corporation, she said the expo would continue for 15 days from March two to 16. The Corporation had been organising a number of programmes for promotion of handicrafts sales like Lepakshi Heritage Collection Exhibitons, Craft Bazaars, Craft Melas, Handicrafts.....

India ranks very poor in environmental sustainability

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) India ranks very poor among 146 countries in environmental governance and sustainability, the Government told the Rajya Sabha today. The 2005 Environmental Sustainability Index(ESI) formulated by the Centre for Environmental Law and Policy of Yale University and Centre for International Earth Science Information Network, Columbia University, places India at 101st down the ladder. The Index is utilised for ranking various countries, integrates 21 indicators of Environmental Sustainability including air and water quality and environmental governance, Minister.....
