Agitation seeking amendment of Art 371 in Gulbarga on Feb 27

Gulbarga, Feb 22 (UNI) The Hyderabad-Karnataka Horatta Samithi will take out a procession on February 27 in the city, demanding that the State Government mount pressure on the Centre to amend Article 371 of the Constitution to accord special status to the backward region.

Informing this in a press conference here today, Samithi President Vyjnath Patil, MLA, said over 15,000 people would participate in the procession. Various political parties, including the Congress, have agreed to support the procession and other agitational programmes.

He said rallies and demonstrations would be held in Raichur, Koppal and Bijapur in the H-K region soon to protest against the Government's ''laxity'' in amending Article 371 and implementing the recommendations of the Nanjundappa Committee on regional imbalance.

Two killed, 6 injured in road accident

Cuddalore, Feb 20 (UNI) Two persons were killed and six injured, one of them seriously when the Tata Sumo in which they were travelling rammed in to paddy laden lorry at Narikkuravar colony near Vadalur today. According to police, eight persons boarded the vehicle carrying newspapers which was returning here at Melankuzhi near Kattumannarkoil for taking part in a funeral.
