12 bodies of Samjhauta blast victims arrive in Wagah

Wagah, Pakistan, Feb 22 (UNI) The bodies of twelve Pakistani victims of the Samjhauta Express blasts arrived at Wagah border here today.

Pakistan's private Geo TV quoted local officials as saying that Indian authorities handed over the bodies to the Pakistan Rangers at the border.

Seven bodies arrived early today and were airlifted to Karachi by a Pakistan Air Force C-130 transport plane. This was followed by the arrival of five more bodies.

''These [five] bodies are to be transported by air and then by road to Karachi and Multan,'' the officials said.

Relatives of the deceased were present when the bodies of their loved ones were handed over to the Pakistan Rangers.

The Indian government has paid Rs 50,000 each to the families of the deceased and were told that the remaining amount would be paid to them through the Indian High Commission in Pakistan.

Officials said four bodies would be transported to Karachi by a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight while the fifth one would be sent to Multan by road.

Census of Mudhumalai Park to be completed by March 18

Chennai, Mar 14 (UNI) The seven-days general census of Mudhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park in Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu, undertaken by the Wildlife Department, would be completed by March 18. Wildlife Department sources said a training programme was also held in Theppakadu, as part of the census. Though as many as 148 volunteers came forward to assist, only 32 were selected for taking the census of the park, which was spread over 271 sqkm. Around 70 forest officers.....

Indian, US officials deny hitch in finalising nuclear deal

Washington, Feb 23 (UNI) Top Indian and US diplomats have ruled out the possibility of any last-minute hitch in finalising the US-India civilian nuclear agreement, setting at rest doubts raised in both the countries over the future of the historic deal. Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon and US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns said leaders of the two countries had already reached an understanding on the basic issue. Pakistan test-fires Shaheen missile

Islamabad, Feb 23 (UNI) Pakistan today successfully test-fired its long range surface-to-surface ballistic missile Hatf VI (Shaheen II), which can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads and has a range upto 2,000 km. ''The missile test was part of continuous process of validation and technical improvement, which Pakistan follows to consolidate and verify its various land-based strategic missile systems,'' said a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) after the test-fire.
