Western Australian Premier calls on CM

Hyderabad, Feb 21 (UNI) Western Australia Premier Alan Carpenter and his team today called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at Secretariat here.

Mr Carpenter evinced keen interest in collaboration with the state, in all possible fields, an official release said.

He hailed the state as a fast growing economy with a knowledge society and the state government as pro-active. He was also appreciative of ICRISAT and the ICICI Knowledge Park.

Drawing a parallel between the state and his country, he said both had a long sea coast and a rapidly growing economy. However, Andhra Pradesh had a vast knowledge-based human resources unlike the other.

He was accompanied by Director of Strategic Management Malcolm Bradshaw, Deputy Director General Industry and Resources Stuart Smith, his Media Advisor Guy Houston.

Five people killed in road mishaps

Bangalore, Feb 27 (UNI) Five people, including a Rapid Action Force (RAF) driver, were killed and eight others injured in two different road mishaps in Karnataka, today. Police said four people were killed and an equal number injured when a tempo, in which they were travelling, collided with a private bus at Kappalamadagu village, about 80 km from here. TN CM flags off Chennai-Delhi Garib Rath Exp

Chennai, Feb 21 (UNI) Flagging off the prestigious 'Garib Rath' superfast weekly express between Chennai Central-Hazrat Nizamuddin at the Central railway station here today, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidi hoped that the newly-introduced airconditioned train would fulfill the aspirations of the people. 131 deportees from Saudi arrive

Chennai, Feb 21 (UNI) As many as 131 Indians detained in Saudi Arabia on charges of illegal stay and other offences, reached here today by a Saudi Airlines flight at Anna International airport. Airport sources said the deportees from Bihar, Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu left for their respective destinations. They told reporters that proper food was not provided in Saudi Arabia. However, they were not subjected to any harassment. UNI.....
