Villagers torch police station in MP

Gwalior, Feb 21 (UNI) A police station was stoned and torched today in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior district by villagers incensed over a boy's kidnapping and murder, the police said.

By afternoon the situation was extremely tense at Chinor village.

The villagers assaulted and injured Chinor Station House Officer R C Arya and the accused this morning besides torching a police vehicle before targeting the police station. Several two-wheelers parked in the premises were also set ablaze.

Bhagirath Ka Pura-resident Rohit Jatav alias Lallu's family members lodged a police complaint after the child did not return home last night from his tuition class.

Following a clue provided by a girl, a village youth Jeetendra Jatav was arrested and the kid's body found this morning.

Mr Arya and Jeetendra were surrounded at Chinor Bus Stand while the officer was conveying the corpse to Dabra for post mortem.

Personnel conveyed the accused to the police station with difficulty but the villagers reached there as well.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Mangalsingh has reached Chinor village.

Malaysian company proposes gas-based power project in Goa

Panaji, Feb 21 (UNI) The Goa government is examining a Malaysian company's proposal to set up a Rs 1000-crore dual-cycle power plant to produce 130 MW of electricity on BOOT basis. Deputy Chief Minister Wilfred de Souza, who is also in charge of S&T and environment, said the project is aimed at not only converting 400 tonnes of solid waste into 10 MW of power per day through high-voltage incinerator but also generating an additional 120 MW using imported LNG. Pune, Feb 21 (UNI) Rain or snow are likely to occur at a few places in Jammu and Kashmir and at isolated places in Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh. Rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Haryana, Punjab, north Rajasthan Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep. Fire in Junagadh district collector's office, guts files, property

Junagadh, Feb 21 (UNI) A major fire broke out in the office of the District Collector early today, damaging property and reducing several important files to ashes. According to the preliminary reports, the cause of fire is said to be because of a short circuit. However, no casualties were reported, official sources said. The four-storeyed office also housed the offices of the Deputy Collector, Mid-day meal department, employment section, district and taluka panchayats etc. Twelve fire tenders were pressed into service.....
