Varma gets court notice for 'Nishabd'

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) Delhi High Court today issued notice to Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma on a petition filed by Kanungo Media Pvt Ltd seeking permanent injunction on release of Amitabh Bachchan-starred film 'Nishabd'.

After hearing preliminary arguments, Justice A K Sikri asked Varma, RGV Film Factory, Adlabs Films Ltd and Super Cassettees Ltd to file their replies to the allegations in the petition by March 23.

In a petition Kanungo Media Pvt Ltd of Director Dinanath Jawhar Kanungo alleged that Varma had infringed his intellectual property rights over the name and title of its own film 'Nisshabd' which had won many international awards.

The Central Board of Film Certification had cleared the name for the film in June 2005, said the petition.

The film has received the best feature film award at Osian's Cinefan Festival Asian Film in July 2005, second prize at International Film Festival, Bangladesh in March 2006 and 'Coup De Coeur Guimet Award' at Vesoul International Festival of Asian Award .

Nisshabd was produced with the financial aid under the scheme 'Fonds Sud Cinema' from the French government released in November 2002.

Kanungo has sought direction of the court to stop the release of the film, which is due for release this month.

Fiji minister discusses tourism with Ambika Soni

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Fiji Foreign Affairs and External Trade Minister Ratu Epeli Nailatikau called on Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni here today and discussed measures to promote and strengthen tourism and cultural ties between the two countries. During their 40-minute meeting, the two leaders exchanged relevant information and statistics with regard to tourist arrivals, targets, projection and infrastructure facilities. Pilgrimage and Bollywood are other attractions which are being marketed and promoted in Fiji, having 43.6 per cent population.....

HC asks police to explain motive in Red Fort attack

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) The Delhi High Court asked the police today to explain the motive of LeT militants in attack on Red Fort on 22 December 2002. Hearing the arguments of the state counsel Mukta Gupta pressing for death sentence for prime accused Ashfaq convicted and unwanted death sentence, a Division bench, headed by justices R S Sodhi and P K Bhasin, enquired as to how and why Red Fort had been chosen as an object of attack by.....

LS to adjourn tomorrow to mourn Mahto's death

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) The Lok Sabha will adjourn tomorrow without transacting any business as a mark of respect to JMM MP Sunil Mahato who was shot dead by naxals in his Jamshedpur constituency yesterday. The Lower House would assemble as usual at 1100 hrs and would adjourn after obituary reference by Speaker Somnath Chatterjee. The house would also observe two minutes' silence.
