Tension prevails in Akola village

Akola, Feb 21 (UNI) Irate villagers set a police outpost, and a few shops and stalls afire at Wadegaon village in Balapur taluka of this district late last night after the ''sarpanch'' of their village was seriously stabbed near the police outpost.

Rajendra Govindrao Mankar, the ''sarpanch'' was stabbed allegedly by a goon, Pramod, alias Munna Dongre, after a verbal altercation between the two just near the police outpost.

In condemnation of the police, a mob took to the streets and set afire the police outpost, few shops and stalls. The mob also indulged in stone pelting, police said.

The seriously injured ''sarpanch'' of the village was admitted to a private hospital here and had to be operated upon. He is now reported to be out of danger.

Meanwhile, additional police force has been deployed in the village. The situation in the village now is reported to be tense but under control.

Blast convicts' plea deferred till March 2

Mumbai, Feb 21 (UNI) The TADA court has deferred till March 2 the hearing into the plea by 69 people, convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, that they be awarded punishment similar to the one that would be awarded to Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt. The court was to hear the matter today but deferred it till March 2 since Mushtaq Ahmed, counsel for the petitioners, could not be present in the court. Designated TADA judge P D Kode deferred.....

Ultras killed Mahto in pre-planned conspiracy: Marandi

Jamshedpur, Mar 5 (UNI) Jharkhand Vikas Morcha(Democratic) president and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi today said the naxals killed JMM MP Sunil Mahto in a pre-planned conspiracy.
