Speaker disallows opposition adjournment motions

Hyderabad, Feb 21 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy today disallowed adjournment motions sought to be moved by the opposition parties on various issues.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, the Speaker announced that he was disallowing the adjournment motions given notice of by the TDP, TRS, CPI and the Janata Party on drastic fall in the price of turmeric in the market.

The opposition members were on their feet demanding that the House set aside the listed business and take up the burning problem of the farmers, who had been hit hard with no remunerative prices for their produce.

Pleading with the members to resume their seats, the Speaker said they could raise the issue during the discussions on the Budget.

Uproarious scenes prevailed for some time in the Assembly before Rural Development Minister D Srinivas assured the House that a statement would be made on the issue later.

Following this, the opposition party members relented and facilitated normal conduct of the listed business.

The Speaker also disallowed the adjournment motions given notice of by BJP floor leader G Kishen Reddy on the governments alleged vindictive attitude towards a particular vernacular Daily and by the Bahujan Samaj Party legislator L Raja Rao on poor quality cement supplied for constructing the houses meant for the weaker sections of the people.

AP Govt to clear SC, ST backlog vacancies: Minister

Hyderabad, Feb 21 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government will strive to clear the pending vacancies in the posts reserved for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the Health and Medical department. Bangalore, Feb 21 (UNI) Low cost carrier Air Deccan today entered into a strategic alliance with Travel Guru, an online travel portal, to provide hotel bookings and holiday packages to its passengers.
