Security Council condemns deadly India-Pakistan train bombing

United Nations, Feb 21 (UNI) The Security Council has condemned the ''terrorist'' attack on the Delhi-Lahore 'Friendship Express,' in which 67 people were killed and nearly 20 injured.

The Council reiterating that no cause can justify terrorism, welcomed the commitment of both India and Pakistan to proceed with the peace dialogue.

''The members of the Security Council condemn the terrorist bombing of the Delhi-Lahore 'Friendship Express' carried out on February 19. (they) express their deepest sympathy to all injured and their condolences to the families of the victims,'' envoy Peter Burian of Slovakia, which holds the Council's rotating presidency this month, told reporters yesterday.

A Security Council resolution said, ''The members of the Security Council reiterated that no cause can justify the use of terrorist violence. They underlined the need to bring to justice the perpetrators ... (they) reaffirmed the need to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and by all means under international law.'' ''The members of the Security Council welcome the commitment to the peace process expressed by the leaders of India and Pakistan after this terrorist attack, as well as their determination to proceed on the path of dialogue,'' it added.

The Council's condemnation of the deadly blast comes after a similar statement by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who also expressed satisfaction that the leaders of both countries had reaffirmed their determination to continue with dialogue.

Russia to respond to US missile defence in Europe without hysteria

Moscow, Feb 21 (UNI) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov today declared Moscow will respond to the US plans to deploy missile defence system in Europe without any hysteria, saying it would not send the arms race spiraling anew. ''We will respond, of course, but without any hysteria. We can't afford being entangled in an arms race once again,'' Mr Lavrov said in an interview to the government-controlled daily Rossiiskaya Gazeta, published today. Afghan parliament gives amnesty to 'jehadi' commanders

Kabul, Feb 21 (UNI) The Upper House of Afghanistan's Parliament has passed the draft law giving amnesty to all the 'jehadi' commanders involved in the conflict of the last twenty-five years. The decision came three weeks after the bill was passed by the lower house and provides for immunity from prosecution for any act committed during the conflict. The decision of the Lower House of Parliament takes the bill one step forward in the process of legislation and ignores.....

Tigress dies of cardiac arrest

Junagadh, Mar 14 (UNI) Sakkarbaug Zoo, one of the oldest zoo in the state, lost a tigress. Zoo Superintendent Ramesh Kalaria told UNI yesterday that 11-year-old ''Tohima'' died due to a cardiac failure. The tigress had three cubs -- one female and two males and had been brought to the Sakkarbaug Zoo from Khanpur Zoo during 1998. Out of the 17 tigers in the zoo, four are white tigers, Mr Kalaria said. UNI.....
