Poverty-stricken mother kills children, self

Ranchi, Feb 21 (UNI) Unable to bear the sufferings of extreme poverty triggered by huge debt her husband owed, a woman set herself and her three minor children afire in Jharkhand's Deoghar district early today.

The four of the family were completely charred, Superintendent of Police Manoj Kaushik told UNI from Deoghar over phone.

Anita (32) and her family had been hit by intense poverty after her husband Jaiprakash Burnwal, a small trader, had been missing for the past three months. He owed money amounting to Rs three lakh to many people in the area, the SP said.

The bodies of the deceased--the mother and her children-- Juhi (12), Ruchi (10) and Golu (7)-- were recovered from their house at the Williams town locality in the district, he said.

SC to hear plea against AP govt enquiry into Margdarshi on Feb 23

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) The Supreme Court will hear, on February 23, a petition filed by ETV owner Ramoji Rao challenging the two Andhra Pradesh Government Orders directing a probe into the affairs of his chit funds company Margdarshi Financiers. Mr Ramoji Rao, in his petition, has alleged that he was being victimised by the Andhra Pradesh government at the instance of Chief Minister Y S Rajashekhar Reddy for exposing corruption in the state govertnment, particularly of the chief minister.....

Emaar-MGF JV to buy Singapore's RSH

Dubai, Mar 5 (UNI) Dubai-based Emaar and real estate major MGF Group, through their joint venture Golden Ace Pte Ltd, will make a 370-million-dollar bid to acquire a majority stake in Singapore-based RSH Ltd. This move would enable it to expand retail business in the subcontinent, West and Southeast Asia, an official statement said. Golden Ace Pte Ltd will make a 1.05 dollar per share ''voluntary conditional cash offer'' to acquire 76.076 per cent stake in RSH, a major pan-Asian marketer,.....
