Officials, defence authorities review security issues

Chennai, Feb 21 (UNI) In the wake of seizure of a huge cache of arms and ammunitions off the Tamil Nadu coast, state officials and defence authorities today reviewed various security-related issues in the state.

Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary L K Tripathy and Major General B Sivasankar, General Officer Commanding, Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala Area (ATNK&K Area), senior officers of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, police and civil dignitaries attended the 'Civil Military Liaison Conference' held after a gap of four years in the state.

Director General of Police D Mukherjee apprised the gathering of the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

Various security-related issues including internal security situation in the state, maintenance of essential services during natural calamities, defence land, welfare of retired and serving soldiers were discussed in the conference.

The conference also enhanced the level of mutual rapport, understanding and cooperation between men in uniform and their civilian counterpart, a defence release here said.

The meeting was extremely useful and positive for all participants, it added.

Day at Sea for Coast Guard in Porbandar tommorrow

Porbandar, Feb 25 (UNI) The Indian Coast Guard will display its prowess at seas tomorrow at a ceremonial programme along the Porbandar coast. Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma will fly down to witness the 'Day at Sea' exercises that will essentially comprise of the varied tasks that the Coast Guard performs at sea like anti-poaching and rescue operations. The 'Day at Sea' which is usually held on February 1 every year to celebrate the Coast Guard Day was delayed.....

IAF gifts MIG to Guru Nanak Dev University

Amritsar Feb 25 (UNI) The Indian Air Force has donated a Mig-23 aircraft to Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) for display and general awareness about the aircraft. The aircraft was today installed in front of the University library by a team of 15 engineers/ground staff of Air Force Station, Halwara led by Sqn Leader Harjinder Singh Marwaha. Giving details about the aircraft, Sqn Ldr Marwaha said that this aircraft has participated in the Kargil war. Vice-Chancellor Dr Jai Rup Singh.....

Hindi will be universally-accepted Language: Anant

Bhopal, Mar 2 (UNI) Eminent Mauritius-resident Hindi short story-writer Abhimanyu Anant is hopeful that Hindi will be the universally-accepted language soon despite the present trend of according importance to English. ''There is nothing wrong in learning English but that should not be at the cost of Hindi. Knowledge of English may be a compulsion for employment but it is not right to accord the importance to English just to influence people and present oneself as modern,'' he told UNI here. Anant,.....
