Mother tongue day observed in state

Agartala, Feb 21 (UNI) Mother tongue day was observed in Tripura today.

The day began with colourful rallies being taken out by school students, teachers and renowned personalities, from the Umakanta Academy here who paraded the main thoroughfares carrying placards.

State Information, Cultural and Tourism (ICAT) Minister Anil Sarkar and Education Minister Keshab Majumder addressed the gathering at Umakanta Academy ground.

Speakers remembered the people of the country and those from Bangladesh who sacrifised their lives for the cause of mother tongue.

A seminar was organised at the town hall here where speakers discussed the reason for observing the day.

Apart from this, a festival on 'Bhasa o Sahitya'(Language and Literature) and other cultural programmes were organised by the ICAT department of Tripura government at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhaban here.

HSMC to sign up MNC partner in three weeks for Semicon Fab

Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) Hindustan Semiconductor Manufacturing inc (HSMC) will, in three weeks time, sign up with a multinational partner to start work on a Semiconductor Fab in India with an initial investment of one billion dollars. HSMC Managing Partner Devendra Verma told UNI that he was in negotiation with the Governments of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh for locating the Fab and also various downstream units. Initially the Fab would have the capacity to churn out 300,000 wafers annually.....

North Bihar to become 'Industrial hub' : Lalu

Patna, Feb 21 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today said that north Bihar would soon become an 'industrial hub' as the railways had decided to set up factories at Marhaura and Sonepur which would accelerate the pace of development in the region. After flagging off the Patna-Ahmadabad-Azimabad train from Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Mr Prasad said a rail engine factory would be set up at Marhaura while a wheel factory established at Naya village near Sonepur. Two HNLC militants surrender in Meghalaya

Shillong, Feb 21 (UNI) Two Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council militants surrendered before the police here. The HNLC cadres, identified as Lord Canning Thongni and Everywell Leroy also deposited three country-made revolvers with 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition yesterday.. Bangalore, Feb 23 (UNI) Following is a summary of observations recorded by the Weather Office here at 0830hrs today. Dry weather prevailed over the State. Minimum temperatures fell at a few places over South Interior Karnataka and changed little over Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka. Madhyamik examinee dies during exam

Midnapore, Feb 21 (UNI) Madrasa Madhyamik Pariksha examinee today died after suffering chest pain in the examination hall in Padima village in Keshpur. Sandhya Doloi(30) a student of FMI High Madrasa complained of chest pain minutes after the examination begun. She was transfered to Keshpur Rural Hospital, where she later succumbed. UNI.....
